As part of the special VolunteerMatch 2011 Annual Report Infographic, we took a look at the most popular causes at VolunteerMatch – meaning which causes have the most volunteer listings in the network.
Here’s a list of the top 10 causes on VolunteerMatch in 2011:
- Children & Youth
- Education & Literacy
- Health & Medicine
- Arts & Culture
- Advocacy & Human Rights
- Homeless & Housing
To be honest, this list doesn’t hold any huge surprises. These ARE very popular causes, and we’re glad that our nonprofit members that work on these issues are using VolunteerMatch services to connect with volunteers. The top three causes on the list alone account for more than one hundred thousand ways for people to give their time and make a difference.
Did you know, though, that there are actually 29 different cause areas to choose from on VolunteerMatch? From Crisis Support to Animals to Sports & Recreation, the list is actually far more diverse than what is represented above.
So why aren’t there more volunteer listings in these causes? What happened to Environment, for example, or Hunger? Where are all the LGBT listings, and the Faith-Based opportunities?
Over the course of the next year we’ll be making sure our network is as diverse as possible, so that when your community members come to VolunteerMatch, they will find ways to connect with the causes they care about.
What cause areas would you like to see on next year’s “Top Ten” list?
