Is your organization on great GreatNonprofits.org? If the answer is “Not sure,” this post’s for you.
GreatNonprofits.org helps donors, foundations, volunteers and other learn more about organizations in their communities. For nonprofits that work with volunteers — which is most of you — the free Web service offers a way to put your best foot forward and present what you’re all about in a trusted environment.
But what’s really cool are the tools for supporters and volunteers to rate and review your organization for others. It’s kind of like the feature we rolled out last year, VolunteerMatch Recommendations & Reviews, on steroids.
I caught up with Shari Ilsen at the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service to talk about how nonprofits can use the service more effectively and the promise of transparency in the independent sector.
The big takeaway? In an increasingly peer-to-peer world, make sure your best volunteers are visiting sites like GreatNonprofits.org to share their experience with others.

I just discovered these guys and i think they are filling a void that’s existed for a while. I recently read an article about donors trusting nonprofits more if they find a good website for them on the web. So it’s even better if they find them AND some original reviews from real people. As a non profit website provider, I think all nonprofits should set up a presence on greatnonprofits.org and I will recommend them to my clients from now on.
