More Than a Blogroll: Spotlight on the Right Column

Avid Engaging Volunteers fans may have noticed that we’ve been building up our blogroll section lately.  You can see along the right column the great blogs we’ve found that cover nonprofit volunteer programs and how best to manage them.

More Than a Blogroll

But that’s not all.  The right column of Engaging Volunteers is not just a blogroll – it’s a comprehensive list of resources that will help you recruit, train, and manage volunteers for your nonprofit.  We’ve been adding to these lists, as well, and below are some descriptions of a few of the resources you can find both on our site and elsewhere.  We urge you to explore them all.

Resources for Nonprofits

  • Nonprofit Technology Network – NTEN is a membership organization that helps nonprofits use technology more efficiently.  Some great benefits of joining include an impressive webinar lineup, an interactive peer community and directory, and a significant discount on registration to the biggest nonprofit technology conference of the year, NTC.
  • – Similar to VolunteerMatch Ratings and Reviews, this website focuses exclusively on first-hand feedback about nonprofits from those who have been involved.  It’s a great way to spread the word about your nonprofit’s impact and obtain feedback and testimonials from your volunteers.
  • Energize, Inc. – Susan Ellis has been running this robust nonprofit consulting and training company since 1977, and it’s a fantastic resource for nonprofit volunteer managers. In addition to the services Energize itself offers, the website aggregates information from all over the sector to help with your volunteer programs.  We also recommend their journal, E-Volunteerism.
  • Taproot Foundation – Need of some professional help, but don’t have the capacity to add to your staff? Taproot engages professionals in pro-bono projects for nonprofits.  You can get the help you need via their Service Grants program, which provides forms teams of skilled professionals for focused, larger-scale projects in areas like leadership development, marketing, IT, and more.

Resources on VolunteerMatch

  • Nonprofit Learning Center – Here you can learn about all the great free online webinars offered by VolunteerMatch, including the 3 coming up this week:
  • Seasons of Service – Each year is chock-full of special days when you can engage volunteers, and here’s where you can learn about them.  For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is coming up in January, and you can update your listings using keywords like “MLK Day” and “King Day of Service” to have your opportunities included in our event opportunity feed.
  • What We Offer – Beyond the simple opportunity listings, there are some exciting ways to take advantage of VolunteerMatch services as a nonprofit.  Here you can learn about our affordable Community Leader package, and how it can help you recruit more of the volunteers you need, save time, and build better relationships with potential volunteers.

There are many more resources like those above to help you recruit and manage volunteers.  Explore them all by clicking on the links in the right-hand column.
