They have facilitated millions of employee volunteer hours. All they have to do is pick up the phone, and corporate executives invest in volunteering. Some claim that they came up with the term “CSR.” They are: The Most Interesting Client Relations Managers in the World.
1. Give us your elevator speech — what do you do at VolunteerMatch?
I serve as the dedicated contact for new and existing VolunteerMatch clients, including both universities and corporations.
For new clients, I oversee the site launch process after contracts are finalized. I work with our in-house designers and engineers to launch the site. I also lead technical demonstrations, deliver quarterly reports, and communicate best practices to each of my clients. Last but not least, I act as the voice of our users – passing on feedback and ideas to our Product Development team.
2. What brought you to VolunteerMatch? How long have you been here?
I joined VolunteerMatch to foster community involvement and help nonprofit organizations find great volunteers. I was excited to join an organization making an impact in the CSR space and the world. I’ve been at VolunteerMatch for 2 years and love it.
3. What is the most inspiring part of your job? What’s your favorite part?
The most inspiring part of my job is the people I get to work with — this includes our client contacts, their employees, and our nonprofit partners. My favorite part is hearing success stories of people getting engaged in their communities.
4. If you were to start a foundation or a nonprofit, what would its mission be?
I currently help at a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating hunger, so rather than start a new one, I’d probably rather try to help expand their network to a national level and beyond. Foodrunners is a volunteer powered organization that picks up excess food from businesses in San Francisco (such as restaurants and corporate cafeterias), and delivers it directly to shelters and neighborhood programs that feed the hungry.
5. Where will the CSR industry be in 5 years?
In 5 years, we’ll see a big increase in the number of companies that fully incorporate CSR policies into their operations. There will also be many more companies/organizations created with new types of business models — specifically ones with a primary mission of improving a social or environmental cause.
6. Tell us a story (or two) about something that happened in your work that you consider to be a success, something that you’re proud of, and explain why.
Last October, one of my clients (the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey) held their first annual Day of Caring at YMCAs across the State of New Jersey. The day was a success, with over 100 participants spending the day painting, cleaning and landscaping. They managed all of their volunteer activities with VolunteerMatch and I was happy to hear that the day went as planned: collaborating and serving the community.
