Recently we were lucky enough to welcome a new addition to VolunteerMatch’s Education and Training team. Lauren Ting has joined us as our Training & Education Associate, and will be focusing on exploring new ways to engage and support nonprofits in their volunteer recruitment, engagement and management activities.
VolunteerMatch is an innovative organization of great people serving a great cause, and I am so excited to be a part of it! I became the newest member of the Education and Training team in early September, focusing on VolunteerMatch’s engagement with nonprofits, supporting day to day management of our online training program, and measuring program impact.
As a recent transplant to San Francisco from Boston, I’m still enjoying exploring the city and discovering everything it has to offer. When I first moved out here, I was working with Glow as a summer fellow. In Boston I spent three years working at Year Up, a program preparing urban young adults for the professional workplace through education and corporate internships. At Year Up I worked with our corporate partners to support our students as they embarked on their internship experiences.
As part of our program, each student was paired with a mentor, and I was able to see firsthand the impact one caring adult volunteering their time could have on the life of a student – and the impact the student could have on the volunteer! I’m excited to be joining an organization making moments like that happen every day.
I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to VolunteerMatch as we look at new ways to engage and support our nonprofit partners. As we explore how to work collaboratively with you, I’d love to hear from you – what are of some of the challenges you face as a volunteer manager? What are some of the rewards?
