It’s Volunteer Time for the Net2 Think Tank

How can organizations use the internet to make finding volunteers more efficient and effective?  That’s what NetSquared asked its community for this month’s Think Tank.  The topic is so perfect for us, we had to mention it here so you all get a chance to see it.

Net2 Think Tank is a monthly blogging/social networking event open to anyone.  The event is focused on sharing best practices, sparking discussion, and connecting those working with technology for social change.  It’s facilitated by NetSquared, an initiative of TechSoup Global that connects those who create and utilize technologies to make a positive impact on the world.

Here at VolunteerMatch we feel a general affinity towards other groups in the nonprofit technology space, but when they start talking volunteering it’s music to our digital ears.  And when yours truly is actually referenced by groups like the NetSquared community we practically swoon, as we experienced when we read this post from Jessica Sadoway:

“I recommend for posting volunteer opportunities. It has a robust search interface and a variety of opportunities. I’ve volunteered for several organizations using this service.”

The NetSquared community really rallied for this Think Tank.  Answers include over a dozen online networks where nonprofits can recruit volunteers, as well as information about online recruiting tools, such as VolunteerMatch and The Extraordinaries.

Another great aspect of the Round-Up is an extra section of Best Practices and Tips, with gems like this one tweeted by Avi Kaplan when he joined the conversation:

“Enable your volunteers to easily recruit their peers.”

Ah, technology.  You make it so much easier to recruit and engage great volunteers.  Then again, we’ve known that for years!

  1. Hi. I am from Argentina. I live 500 km away from Buenos Aires. I want to know if you have connections in my country and if I can volunteer as translator or interpreter ENGLISH – SPANISH.
I would like to help in that way in my country, Argentina or worldwide through internet or online service.

  2. Hi Shari – thanks so much for this great post about the Net2 Think Tank! It was great to see all the tips that came in from community members about enlisting volunteers through the internet.

VolunteerMatch is an excellent tool for people searching for volunteers online and I’m sure long-time VM users have loads of tips for a successful search! Do you have any tips for people new to VolunteerMatch to use the tool to recruit awesome volunteers?
